Democrat Mass. State Rep. Flanagan’s Employer Releases Statement on Felony Investigation
by Kristen Brissette
UPDATE, NOV. 26, 2024 – Cape Cod State Representative Chris Flanagan, who represents the 1st Barnstable district, is the subject of a criminal investigation according to a Yarmouth Police report obtained by the Boston Broadside and reported in detail last week. Representative Flanagan is being investigated on an alleged charge of Larceny over $1,200.00 which is a felony charge.
Flanagan was employed as CEO of Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod until he left that position on May 8, 2024. The following is a statement issued today to the Boston Broadside from April Ducott, Board of Directors President, Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod:
“While the allegations brought forth against the former executive officer of the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod are deeply disturbing and disappointing, the organization will reserve further comment on the matter as the investigation moves forward.” – April Ducott, Board of Directors President, Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.
The Flanagan story was first noted several weeks before the election when Cape Cod’s WXTK Radio Host Ed Lambert informed his listeners of unspecified rumors circulating about the representative but noted that documentation was not forthcoming at the time. The Broadside was finally able to confirm the existence of “an investigation” prior to the election and reported on such. The Broadside also questioned Rep. Flanagan about the existence of the police report, but Flanagan denied any wrongdoings/knowledge of anything about an investigation and abruptly terminated the call, refusing to provide a comment on the matter.
The Broadside had to make repeated inquiries to two local police departments and finally received the initial police incident report – heavily redacted – after filing an appeal with the state. The release of the report was effectively delayed by more than three week, until well after the election in which Flanagan retained his seat in the legislature.
On today’s radio show, Lambert read an email from a caller which read, “Hey Ed, come on Ed, it’s Flim-Flam Flanagan Felonygate. You got to get it right. Alright?” Lambert replied “Isn’t that funny, Scott? Everybody’s talking about it -except for the Democrats. I’m blown away.”
In another e-mail to Lambert, listener Joe wrote: “I heard you call out the Cape Cod Times for misreporting Chris Flanagan is accused of misappropriating $26,000, and it’s actually misappropriating $36,000.” Lambert took the opportunity to clarify that “he’s being accused of stealing $36,000. I don’t care what you hear from anybody else – The Cape Cod Times ran the article yesterday afternoon and got it wrong. I swear to God, sometimes people like that get it wrong on purpose. So, we will put it out there to our news department to modify or change what they’re talking about for the real amount that he’s being accused of – a felony – stealing from the builder and remodeler program of Cape Cod.”
“It’s amazing that this is going on in our backyard,” Lambert said, “and finally, the local newspaper yesterday afternoon reported it after I called them on it in the morning. Of course, the Herald and the Globe had it over the weekend, but the Boston Broadside had it all over last Thursday and Friday. It takes that long for some [media outlets], and then they get it wrong!”
As this criminal investigation continues, the Broadside will continue to investigate and report on any new findings.
In a separate Flanagan incident, Flanagan violated election laws and was penalized by the Massachusetts Office of Campaign Political Finance (OCPF) on April 19, 2024. Less than three weeks later, Flanagan “left” his position with the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.
