ANOTHER CATHOLIC INSTITUTION WELCOMES GOVERNOR HEALEY

Governor Maura Healey at Cathedral High School

Another Catholic institution in the Archdiocese of Boston has opened its doors to the Bay State’s militantly pro-abortion chief executive, Governor Maura Healey.

Earlier this month, Healey visited Cathedral High School to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Healey was photographed in the Cathedral High gymnasium with the school’s championship girls basketball team, the Panthers.

The President of Cathedral High, Daniel Carmody, publicly thanked Healey for what he described as “an inspiring visit,” with her “message of empowerment.”

Cathedral High is located directly across the street from the residence of the Archbishop of Boston, at the Rectory of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, in the city’s South End.

Established in 1926 by Cardinal William O’Connell, Cathedral High became an independent Catholic school in 2004, governed by a Board of Trustees.

One of the current trustees is the Very Reverend Monsignor Kevin J. O’Leary, the Rector of Holy Cross, and a close advisor to the recently retired Archbishop, Cardinal Sean O’Malley.

Maura Healey is a partnered lesbian and a pro-abortion zealot who has a long history of bitter hostility to the moral and legal claims pro-life movement and to constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.

As both a candidate and an office holder, Healey has espoused extremist positions and supported radical legislation to expand the killing of the unborn. As Attorney General, she filed numerous lawsuits opposing the right to life.

When she first ran for Attorney General in 2014, Healey vowed to shut down crisis pregnancy centers in the Commonwealth.

Following her election, she credited Planned Parenthood for her victory, describing its endorsement as “a game changer for my campaign.”

In her 2014 and 2018 campaigns for Attorney General, and in her 2022 campaign for Governor, Healey was endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts.

Her gubernatorial campaign received endorsements from Emily’s List, Reproductive Equity Now and NARAL Pro-Choice America.

In 2022, as Attorney General, Healey issued a Press Release and a Consumer Warning, defaming pro-life pregnancy care centers, accusing them of misleading women.

In 2024, as Governor, Healey, at the behest of her donor class in the abortion industry, launched a $1 million tax funded disinformation campaign against crisis pregnancy centers.

Crafted by the Reproductive Equity Now Foundation—the “trusted partner” of the DPH—and implemented by Healey’s Department of Public Health, the campaign warns pregnant women about the alleged “deceptive and dangerous tactics” and the “potential harm” caused by pro-life centers, and urges women to avoid them.

When not inciting public fear of pregnancy care centers, Healey also ordered the University of Massachusetts system to stockpile 15,000 doses of the lethal abortion drug, Mifepristone.

In 2004, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the directive, Catholics in Political Life, which states:

The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.

Cathedral High is the fifth Catholic institution to provide a platform for Maura Healey in the last year.

Healey addressed students at Saint John’s Prep in Danvers in April of 2024.

The Archdiocese of Boston welcomed Healey to the Catholic Schools Foundation Gala 24 in April, and welcomed her again at the Catholic Charities Spring Celebration, in May.

Earlier that month, through the offices of Cardinal O’Malley, Healey spoke at a Vatican conference on climate change, sponsored by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts called Healey’s appearance “another betrayal of the pro-life movement, and another abandonment of the innocent unborn, by the compromised, time serving, cultural conformists and nominal Christians who dominate the institutional life of the Catholic Church in Boston.”

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle made the following comment:

“It is clear that Daniel Carmody and the leadership of Cathedral High do not care about the killing of over one million innocent children each year in America through surgical and chemical abortion.

They do not care about Maura Healey’s aggressive promotion of fetal murder on a genocidal scale. They do not care about Healey’s unscrupulous demonization of the faithful Catholics who labor, selflessly, in crisis pregnancy centers.

What do they care about? One suspects that, for the Catholic quisling class, the object of their veneration is the unholy trinity of social respectability, institutional fundraising and access to political power.

Professional self interest, not Faith and morals, is their lodestar.

With the accession of a new Archbishop, Richard Henning, to Boston in October of 2024, there was a hope—now clearly unfounded—that the unlawful and disreputable practice of Catholic entities giving awards, honors and platforms to champions of the Culture of Death would finally end.

It now seems clear that episcopate of Richard Henning will continue the corrupt practices of his predecessor, Cardinal Sean O’Malley.

Will faithful Catholics have to wait another generation for the reform of the Church in Boston?
