NUNS HONOR PRO-ABORT POL
On March 14th, the Sisters of the Divine Compassion-–a Catholic religious order in White Plains, New York—will host a Saint Patrick’s Day fundraising event honoring one of the most militant proponents of abortion ever to serve in the U. S. House of Representatives, recently retired Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY).
As a Member of Congress, Lowey received a 100% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America, and was publicly thanked by Planned Parenthood for opposing President Donald Trump’s enforcement of the Title X ban against using federal tax dollars for abortion.
The 2004 directive of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Catholics in Political Life, states: “The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should nothonor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”
The Saint Patrick’s Day fundraiser is a clear violation of the explicit prohibitions of this USCCB directive, a scandalous betrayal of the innocent unborn and of those faithful Catholics and others struggling to protect them, and an insult to the Apostle of Ireland, who, in his own time, condemned the slaughter of innocent Christians by pagan barbarians.
Using this link, please contact Timothy, Cardinal Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, and strongly urge him to stop this scandalous and unconscionable breach of faith. Religious orders, while not part of a diocese, operate in a diocese with the permission of the bishop, so do not let anyone tell you that these nuns are outside of the Cardinal’s jurisdiction.
Please also contact the President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, Sister Laura Donovan, at e-mailLink, and tell her how outraged you are that a group of Catholic nuns would honor a proponent of legal, unrestricted and publicly funded child killing. You may also call her at 914-798-1300, extension 2.
The right to life will never be recognized in secular society if it is not first upheld and vindicated in our own Catholic institutions!
Thank you.
Excommunicate Biden? The Church should have been dishing out excommunications decades ago to many others, including religious– this article is an example — but many of those who deserved that punishment have been running the Church.
