DOUBLE STANDARDS AT THE MASSGOP

On Monday July 22nd, conservative outsider John Gaskey was stunned to learn that the MassGOP denied him use of the party’s mailing permit. John simply wanted to share with the voters his position on key issues compared to the incumbent’s voting record. Here is the mailer John submitted for approval:

Gaskey is running for the 2nd Plymouth House seat against 22-year incumbent Susan Gifford. The district includes Carver, Wareham and Middleborough (Precincts 3, 6 & 7A)
Website: https://www.johngaskey.com/The mailing permit is a resource that’s supposed to be available to every candidate running for office. Effectively, it allows candidates to send mailers at a discounted rate compared to normal rates. (Upwards of 40% – 50% cheaper.) In a district with 2,600 Primary Voters in 2022, this can mean saving upwards of $1,000 per mailer, and $5,000 – $10,000 during the course of a campaign. So why did the MassGOP deny a candidate the use of their mailing permit?

According to the Executive Director of the MassGOP, after stalling for an entire week, Gaskey’s campaign received a response. “In the past the party has not allowed Republicans to attack other Republicans by name in a primary using the Party’s mail permit.”

IF THE MASSGOP DIDN’T HAVE DOUBLE STANDARDS THEY WOULD HAVE NO STANDARDS AT ALL.

Flashback to February 2024 when a special election was held to backfill Peter Durant’s House seat in the 6th Worcester district. Establishment darling John Marsi ran against outsider candidate David Adams in a hotly contested primary race. The Marsi campaign ran smear after smear in a Republican primary in a disgusting campaign against Adams spanning over 4 mailers and $10,000.

Do you think the MassGOP approved those mailers? … You bet they did.

The bottom line is the leadership at the MassGOP approved a disgusting smear campaign (in a Republican Primary) when it benefitted an establishment-endorsed darling, but denied a legitimate mailer by an outsider that wanted to highlight his opponent’s voting record.

If there weren’t double standards at the MassGOP there would be no standards at all!
