Rhetoric and Vitriol
Hello SRTC Members and Friends,
Today, I read Howie’s column in the Boston Herald with disgust as he responded to Geoff Diehl’s challenge for a debate. Howie’s article was full of hostility and vitriol. It seems that the older Howie gets, the more childish he becomes. It’s now more evident that no one has caused more harm to the Massachusetts Republican Party than Howie Carr. Many of us have tried to stay above the fray, but it is becoming unbearable with Howie’s level of attacks on several members of the Republican Party including Geoff Diehl and former MA GOP Chair Jim Lyons.
If it weren’t for Geoff Diehl, Senator Elizabeth Warren would have gone unopposed in the 2018 US Senate race. Many of us are grateful that Geoff stepped up to the plate to oppose Senator Elizabeth Warren. Also, Geoff won the 2022 Republican gubernatorial primary race against Chris Doughty and for all the cries for party unity, Mr. Doughty and Mr. Carr showed no unity. We do know that if Geoff had won, we would not have the illegal immigration problem that we have today. Also due to the efforts of Geoff and hundreds of volunteers the gas tax was defeated. This gas tax legislation if passed, would have tied gas tax increases to inflation. Imagine where we would be today if that had passed.
The OCPF’s (Office of Candidate and Political Finance) shows the following payments from the Chris Doughty campaign for Governor to Howie Carr. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a candidate selecting media outlets, for campaign advertising as well as other services, but it seems that Howie has not recovered from Doughty’s loss and continues to inflict as much harm to Doughty’s opponents as possible.

Two things are for sure:
- Howie is losing influence and credibility in Massachusetts.
- Many of us would never seek his endorsement for anything.
